Fall Back on November 1: An East Texas Home Checklist

Wall clock and autumn decor illustrating the November 1, 2026 daylight saving time change

Daylight saving time ends on Sunday, November 1, 2026. At 2:00 a.m. local time, clocks move back one hour. Along with resetting clocks, the seasonal time change is a useful reminder to complete a few practical checks around your East Texas home.

Reset clocks and household timers

Update clocks on appliances, vehicles and devices that do not adjust automatically. Review timers for indoor lamps, porch lights, landscape lighting and other scheduled equipment so they match the earlier sunset.

Test smoke and carbon-monoxide alarms

Use the test button on each alarm and follow the manufacturer’s guidance for battery replacement and unit lifespan. Replace any alarm that is damaged, unreliable or past its recommended service life.

Review exterior lighting

Check porch, driveway and pathway lights after dark. Replace burned-out bulbs, confirm fixtures are operating properly and make sure walking areas and address numbers are easy to see.

Refresh heating and cooling routines

Review thermostat schedules for cooler temperatures and shorter daylight hours. Check the HVAC filter and replace it if needed according to the system manufacturer’s recommendations.

Complete a quick seasonal home check

Look for loose weatherstripping, blocked gutters, outdoor hoses that need attention and small maintenance items you may want to address before colder weather arrives.
